MINUTES
The January 10,2012 general meeting of YAPS held at Round
Table Pizza was called to order by President Diane Davis at
12 P.M. There were 15 members in attendance together
with guest, and now new member, Crystal ____________.
Minutes
The November 8, 2011 minutes were read and after motion made
and passed, the minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Martha presented the November and December, 2011
reports. Following Peggy’s query, Martha clarified
items for “adoption“ or “pre adoption.” This led to a
brief discussion about city reimbursement for puppies.
Martha pointed out that the December report did not show the
savings balance, which she reported remained unchanged
except for some additional interest.
Dog Park
Vicki reported that a meeting has been scheduled for January
25, 2012 regarding a proposal to put forward to the owners
of property around Mountain View Park. She noted that
there has been 100 positive responses on the questionnaires
circulated and returned regarding interest in a Yerington
dog park.
Voucher Report
It was reported that 39 vouchers were handed out, which
included 7 for feral cats. Diane reported she spoke
with both veterinarians about our feral cat program and that
cats’ ears are absolutely being clipped and that they (vets)
don’t think YAPS is being badly ripped off. Following
Peggy’s question about which comes first, trapping or
obtaining voucher, it is recommended that the voucher
($15.00 charge) be obtained in advance, then get trap, and
then coordinate the trapping with the veterinarian.
The feral cat issue was tabled for a more in-depth
discussion at end of meeting.
Shelter Report
Peggy reported that 2011 was a good year for the
shelter. There were a lot of donations, particularly
after the newspaper article, and the pantry is fully
stocked, has nice blankets and received some very nice
stuff. Some extra new and nice items are donated to
YAPS for raffle items. Diane reported there were 2000
hours of volunteer time at the shelter (mostly Peggy!).
Old Business
Angel Tree: was spectacular
this year (2011). Discussion followed about how well
everyone was helped, and plans for better organization of
the donations for delivery at Angel Tree 2012.
Santa Pictures: Martha reported did
almost as well ($900) at 2011 Santa pictures as 2010
($1000).
New Business
2012 Calendar: Laps for YAPS
to be held 6/23; Great Yerington Yard Sale in September;
Santa pet pictures and Angel Tree in December.
Regarding Angel Tree, Diane working on article for newspaper
requesting people interested in sponsoring recipients year
around and she will coordinate putting sponsor-recipient
together or however worked out considering privacy issues of
recipients.
Cattery: Diane reported on Jesse
Roberts’ proposal to the Yerington City council to trap,
tame and alter feral kittens and opening a facility to keep
them until placement in the community in an effort to lower
the feral cat population; Peggy further reported on
Roberts’ efforts with the City and her discussions with him
regarding the steps and process she recommends he take in
order to be successful with the City. Lengthy, general
discussion followed about general interest, pros and cons
and liability of having a cattery and YAPS involvement and
support; Jean noted the lack of a cattery in
Silver Springs because of the potential problems; Susan is
going to contact the Humane Society regarding their
involvement with catteries. Following the discussion, it was
agreed among all members present that YAPS would not be
project coordinator of the cattery.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Bartels,
Secretary
